Magnesium - Uses, Benefits & DIY Spray!

Did you know most of us are Magnesium deficient?! Few people are aware of the enormous role magnesium plays in our bodies. Magnesium is by far the most important mineral in the body. After oxygen, water, and basic food, magnesium may be the most important element needed by our bodies; vitally important, yet hardly known. It is more important than calcium, potassium or sodium and regulates all three of them. Millions suffer daily from magnesium deficiency without even knowing it. The health benefits of Magnesium Chloride may be utilized to their fullest potential when absorbed through the skin. Magnesium supplements can also be taken orally, but their bio availability can be diminished by their contact with stomach acids and digestive enzymes. Magnesium can work fastest when applied topically as it can be absorbed almost instantly without having to be digested.

  • Improved magnesium levels - it can be really hard to get magnesium from food and water. If the soil our food is grown in is depleted you can bet that our body isn't getting nearly enough.
  • Balance blood sugar - goodbye sugar cravings. Every time I have a sweet craving now I whack on some magnesium cream. I always thought I needed that sweet treat but maybe my body was just craving certain minerals!?
  • Muscle soreness - reduced post workout recovery. Probably one of the most popular and well know benefit of magnesium.
  • Improved sleep quality - Amen! As a mum of a child who has sleep apnea extra sleep is always welcome. But it's also important to note a small number of people may have the opposite effect in which case night time may not be the best time to apply. Instead pop some on as soon as you wake.
DIY Magnesium Oil Spray Recipe
When I don’t have magnesium cream on hand which is what we prefer to use I make up a quick spray!
  • Glass bowl
  • Glass spray bottle
  • 1/4 cup magnesium chloride flakes1/4 cup distilled water
  • Essential oils (optional, we use frankincense & lavender)
  • Boil the distilled water. Using distilled water will extend the shelf life.
  • Place the magnesium chloride flakes in the glass bowl and the pour the boiling water over it.
  • At this point you can add a calming essential oil but this is optional.
  • Stir well until completely dissolved. Let cool and store in the spray bottle!
I keep it by my bed to use before retiring for the night!
